Commercializing my angst

My gilded clay sculptures were produced in La Casa dell’Arte, the company run by ceramics master Danilo Trogu in the village of Albisola on the Ligurian coast, 40 kilometres west of Genova, Italy. Invited to participate in the first Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art in the summer of 2000, I went to Albisola and discovered clay. I also soon found out that the little village of Albisola had been the occasional working home for great artists such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Wifredo Lam, Asger Jorn and many others.
Anyway, the clay lets my initial abstract operations connect to my subjective hell in an instant three-dimensional gestaltung. In an almost Cage-ian chance operation my hyper associations beam out of the shapes and, as usual, I commercialize my angst by entertaining myself and my customers, fighting back with witty, sardonic and humble manipulations. The clay’s thixotropic plasticity, the erotic squeezing, the dusty smell of ancient material history, the sun-drying and the long-term anti-stress working methods inspire me.
